 KAMA - MIDDAYS 10AM-3PM

Hello to all that partake in this biographical journey! My name is Kama. I am a wife and a mom as well as the midday voice on 99.9 The Point in Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming. My parents were some crazy hippies back in the day. I grew up in the Durango area (Bayfield) without electricity, a telephone, or cable, and I was home-schooled until 5th grade. But I always had radio. My dad was a local DJ and use to dedicate songs to his favorite daughter... There stemmed my love for the job. I’ve lived in Northern Colorado for 9 years and I love it here. I am a music fanatic, I love how music feels and what it does to my soul. My favorite artists include, but are not limited to Michael Franti, Bill Withers, Bob Schneider, Brandi Carlile, Incubus, Lyrics Born, My Morning Jacket, Goldfrapp, Foo Fighters, Audioslave, Modest Mouse, Sam Cooke, Muse, Collective Soul, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Your Vegas, Tegan & Sara and anything with a great drum beat, real sound and energy.. My favorite possessions are my bike and my headlamp. I love mint, black licorice, coffee, travel shows, dirt roads, camping, road trips, 5 Barrel beer (Odells), red wine, yellow tulips, my cat Hobbs, my dog Bella, my husband Anthony, my baby girl Tula Rose, singing loudly in the sunshine, painting stuff, cooking, dancing, garlic, the color red, accessories and music!!!  I like finding out how people become who they are, being outdoors and slowing life down.

Hey It’s Kama, The internet--
I love paying my bills online cause it’s easy, I never thought about the environmental good I was doing, but it turns out for every 38,000 bills paid online, 5,058 pounds of greenhouse gases are avoided and two tons of trees are preserved. And get this, its estimated direct payment also saves a person about $150 annually in stamp and check costs and late fees.  I’ve also found a few discounts by doing things online.  So there you have it, paying bills online, another way to be green!  This Green Minute brought to you by Ehrlich VW in Greeley, Award winning Service and award winning VW's recognized for safety and quality with 7 IIHS top safety picks and Consumer Guides Top Picks Jetta, Tiguan SUV and the 2010 CC Sport Sedan. Hey It’s Kama,
Growing up in a water conscious home, I often heard the saying if its yellow, let it mellow, brown, flush it down.  Now, I realize this isn’t a water saving remedy for everyone…but you can still Reduce the amount of water used with each toilet flush.  Add an air bladder, bricks or the like into the toilet's tank to reduce the amount of water used with each toilet flush.  You rarely need that much water to get the job done.  tons of state and city rebates for energy efficiency in your home are currently being offered, including rebates for water efficient toilets.  Visit your city utility website and state websites as well.  This Green Minute brought to you by Ehrlich VW in Greeley, Northern Colorado's TDI Headquarters. Hey it’s Kama, with more ways to save…
Jerry Seinfeld said once “we’re just cheering for laundry” and I agree, nothing better than clean clothes, except clean clothes and saving energy.  Most of the energy used by a washing machine comes from heating the water, and one full load uses less energy than two small loads. So make sure you set your washer loads for “warm” or “cold” wash instead of hot, and only run full loads instead of lots of little loads.  Plus cold water can keep your clothes from fading.  And when drying clothes use the Automatic clothes driers with moisture-sensor cutoffs or temperature-sensor cutoffs that uses 10 to 15 percent less energy than driers with timers.  Cold wash, full loads, sensor timers to dry…then we can really cheer for laundry.  This Green Minute brought to you by Ehrlich VW in Greeley, Northern Colorado's New and Certified Used Volkswagen Volume Dealer. .  For more Green Minutes visit my DJ page at 999ThePoint.”

Hey It’s Kama, did you know you can save money and energy by taking advantage of daylight. Sometimes it’s just habit to turn on lights, when you can actually see just fine with the light of a window.  Those monthly savings on your light bill will add up!  Take advantage of daylight by using light-colored curtains on your windows to allow daylight to fill the room. Also, decorate with lighter colors that reflect daylight.  Natural light can be soothing and studies show natural light can alleviate headaches.  Daylight has a lot to offer huh, saving money and helping the environment.

Hey It’s Kama, Wow!!!  I  just read that Americans buy 28 billion single-serving plastic water bottles every year, and of course 80% of those end up in landfills. AND meeting that demand for bottled water requires more than 1.5 million barrels of oil annually, that’s enough to fuel 100,000 cars for a year.  Do your part, cut back on the plastic buildup with a reusable water bottle, they make them in all different styles and colors and fill it up with good ol’ tap water.  AND since Colorado is said to have some of the best drinking water in the country, you might be surprised how much you like drinking straight from the tap.  So there you have it, save money and keep plastic out of the landfill.  This Green Minute brought to you by Ehrlich VW in Greeley, Northern Colorado's TDI Headquarters. Get up to 58 MPG in a 2010 Jetta TDI a great selection of Jetta TDI Sedans and Sportwagens available.

Did you know Reducing your speed to 55 mph from 65 mph may increase your fuel efficiency by as much as 15 percent; cut it to 55 from 70, and you could get a 23 percent improvement.  Park far away in parking lots. It’s easier to get head-in parking here anyway but you also save on gas because you’re not idling at the front of the store waiting for everyone else that’s up there to get out of the way. Fill up the gas tank at night. Did you know that you’re going to get more gas in your vehicle if you fill up when it’s cool out than if you do it when it’s hot? This means less trips to the gas station  This Green Minute brought to you by Ehrlich VW in Greeley, Northern Colorado's New and Certified Used Volkswagen Volume Dealer. .  For more Green Minutes visit my DJ page at 999ThePoint.”
